Old Sheffield Plate: Old Sheffield Plate describes the process developed in the mid-18th century, of rolling sheet s of silver either side of a copper base. This process was done under heat and pressure, and required pure silver. With age the silver can become thin, showing through the copper base and giving Old Sheffield Plate pieces a golden warm glow and charm of their own.
